What does it take to be a successful businesswoman? One of the difficult realities of being a female leader, according to a corporate CEO, is stepping into a business conference and realizing you are one of the few women, if not the only woman, in the room among your male peers. The burden of being the lone one may be overpowering for most of us, men and women alike. The majority of group members, whether intentionally or not, subject minorities to a larger percentage of prejudice and discrimination. One of the major reasons why women executives are in the minority in our economic world is because of this. We spoke with India's female business executives about their challenges in reaching the top. As a consequence, several remarkable stories emerged. We've named the women leaders in India in Business in this issue, who have defied preconceptions and created an impact via their business acumen and social and cultural influence. We hope that by sharing our stories, a new generation of women will be inspired to take up leadership roles and challenge the status.
